Special Stories like Diana’s are not rare but always special to tell

Born in a family with very limited resources in San Pedro de Macoris, her mothere tended her every need. At a very early age she was diagnosed with a congenital heart murmur and refered to the Robert Reid Hospital in Santo Domingo for further examination.

Jaqueline cared for her daugther with her limited resourses; she frequently found herself in need to ask for time off from work at the free zone to take her daughter to medical appointments. Dedicated and with eyes fixed in finding a way to help her daughter, in more that one ocation had to pawn or sell what little she had to have enough Money for medicines and medical treatment.

It was during one of her visits to Santo Domingo when she learned of Heart Care Dominicana, and with just a medical referal she made an appointment for an evaluation. On this appointment doors were oponed for Diana who at 12 years of age had given up her studies due to her inability to walk to school.

On a beautifull december day wesaw her come into the Pediatric cardiovascular unit, full of hope and a big smile on her face. Her visitors were told about everything her mom had done to find the help she so desperatly needed, ahd of diana’s dream to become a doctor so she Could help all those who like her require help.

Her mother heart is filed with joy as she watches her daughter grow, run, healthy and full of life.
